“Isaiah” by Edwin Muir 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 (15 May 18873 Jan 1959)
Isaiah from his ledge could see
Angel and man and animal
At their everlasting play.
He saw the crack in the palace wall
Open and shut like a mouth jerking,
Spitting out teeth of stone.
He and the Three were all alone
With Time and with Time’s working.
The Three were one, the One was three,
For his eyes could never see
This or that, so quick its passing.
But the triple shadows crossing
Framed an image in their fall,
A shape against the breaking wall.
