“My trees, it’s for your stunning eye …” by Boris Pasternak 🇷🇺 (10 Feb 189030 May 1960)
Translated from the Russian by Natasha Gotskaya
My trees, it’s for your stunning eyes,
Because of your amazing presence
That, for the very first of times,
I live on Earth and see your essence.
I often think: perhaps, the Lord,
When looking for the color, found
And took it from inside my heart
And dipped His brush to paint your crowns.
If there’s a friend among my class
As intimate as you, my tree-friends,
He has the simple grace of grass,
Uncommonness of heights and greenness.
