“Downfall” by Georg Trakl 🇦🇹 (3 Feb 18873 Nov 1914)
Translated from the German by Eric Plattner & Joseph Suglia
Over the white fishpond
The wild birds have been driven away.
In the evening an icy wind blows from the stars.
Over our graves
The broken brows of the night bend across us.
Under oaks we swing on a silver boat.
We always hear the noise from the white walls of the town.
Under the bow of thorns
O my brother we climb with blind hands towards midnight.
